Hay Rake, September 24th 2017

The weather was warm and dry as 25 volunteers got to work at the Hay Rake. The two High School meadows had been mown and the grass was removed to avoid the soil nutrient level increasing as it decays – this means we should have more wild flowers next Spring.
A few volunteers also worked at the margins of the meadows to remove some of the undergrowth overgrowing the site.
We were also pleased to welcome five pupils from Cardiff High school who will be completing their community volunteering hours with us. We hope that they will gain some insight about managing the environment whilst we benefit from their hard work.

Thank you also to the support team who provided the usual cider (plus non-alcoholic drinks!) and welsh cakes that accompany this event.
